Whatsapp was meant to be a simple chatting application but after wooing millions of users worldwide in a span of almost 20 years, and getting acquired by Facebook which in turn introduced whatsapp on Web and setting up a buzz by allowing free whatsapp calls, I'm here to show you how to get it enabled and running in your Android device without root.
Just follow the below mentioned steps without skipping any to get free calling feature on whatsapp.
Step 1: Backup your chats
Enabling calling on whatsapp needs you to replace current version of your whatsapp with a new one, so you will first need to make a backup of your chats before you can install the new version. Open whatsapp and go to Settings - Chat settings - Backup conversations
After backup is complete, you may proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Uninstall your current version of the app.
Step 3: Install new version with calling feature inbuilt
You may download it from HERE
While installing, make sure to restore old chats so that you do not lose your older chats.
Step 4: Time to get free calling work for you without rooting your android
After you have managed to install the latest version, Tell anyone who has calls enabled to call you via whatsapp, after which whatsapp free calling feature will be enabled for your device :D

After you get a call, you are not able to see the call tab, either the procedure does not work for your device or you have missed a step. The workflow is backing up chats, uninstalling older whatsapp, installing new app from the link, and getting yourself called by someone with calls enabled. If you have missed any of the steps, it will not work, please repeat from step 1 to get calling on your whatsapp.
How to check if calling has been indeed enabled:
First, check your whatsapp version. It should be 2.11.561
Open the app and you should be able to see list of people you have sent/received messages to/from. Click on anyones display picture, a popup should pop up
If it still doesnt work for you, comment with your Device name, Android version
If you have rooted your device, you can do these additional steps to get voice calls enabled on any device provided that someone with whatsapp voice calls enabled has already called you:
1. Download and install Terminal Emulator for android
2. Open it and type in the following command in the console
am start -n com.whatsapp/com.whatsapp.HomeActivity
Open whatsapp and you should see calling feature activated :D
PSS. This trick should work for all devices on Kitkat and above...
WHATSAPP DOES NOT ACCEPT NEW USERS TO THIS CALLING FEATURE ON ALL DAYS. Please get whatsapp called by someone on friday and saturday, as whatsapp accepts new users for calling feature almost every friday and saturday :D
Whatsapp accepts new users for calling feature on fridays or sometimes Saturdays. Tell your friend to call you on both days once, if whatsapp accepts new users, you will automatically get enrolled for whatsapp calling feature :)
